Winterizing Your Rental

IMG_2745 photoshoppedIt would appear as though our first taste of winter weather has officially hit this weekend. But before you bundle up and break out the blankets, remember to prepare your long term rental in Crestview, Niceville, Destin and Fort Walton Beach for these below average temperatures too!

If you have not already, now is the time to turn on your home’s heater or furnace. When you do, you may notice an unusual smell/odor. This is due to inactivity over the summer months, and completely normal. However, if the smell persists three days or more, you may want to contact your property manager or landlord. Remember that it is important to change filters out regularly, especially in the winter, to cut down on energy costs.

Another step you can take to prep your home will require you head outdoors and unhook your hoses from the water spigots. While you are out there, throw a towel or blanket over them to prevent pipes from freezing and some costly water damage. Lastly, don’t forget to winterize your irrigation system.
