Safety Tips for Holiday Home Decor

ChristmashouseWho doesn’t love a home decorated for the holidays? Better yet, who doesn’t love decorating their own home for the season? As you pull out your lights, trees, wreaths and all other things Christmas, remember to follow these safety tips from our Gulf Coast property management team at Southern:

(1) Keep Trees Away from Heat Sources. Fireplaces, vents and radiators can rapidly dry out live trees and increase the risk of flammability. Even if you use an artificial tree, it’s better to be safe rather than sorry.

(2) Keep Candles Burning Within Site. Nothing says Christmas quite like the smell of peppermint, cinnamon and pine tree. That said, it is important to keep them (a) out of reach from children and pets, and (b) only burning within site.

(3) Check Lights for Sites of Damage. Before stringing your lights up, check each set for broken or cracked sockets, bare wires or loose connections. While you’re at be sure to give the extension cords a once over to determine which should be used inside and which should be used outside.
