Cinnamon Rosemary Old FashionedAn Old Fashioned is a classic cocktail with a multitude of variations, but our favorite is this festive twist that’s perfect for the holiday season. Delight everyone at your holiday party this season with our Cinnamon Rosemary Old Fashioned – it’s easy enough to prepare in just a few minutes at home, but tasty enough to make your guests think you spend all day crafting this concoction. By creating your own cinnamon rosemary simple syrup, you’re adding some Christmas flair with every sip. Plus, it photographs so beautifully, too!

Are you renting a home in Pensacola‘s downtown area? Stop by Old Hickory Whiskey Bar on Palafox Street for the best Old Fashioned in Pensacola. Made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, Dolin Sweet & Dry Vermouths, and Angostura bitters, the Whiskey Bar’s most popular drink is a show as well. Before adding everything to the glass, the bartender flips it over to smoke the inside. Blink and you’ll miss it! However, we didn’t smoke our glass when we made our Cinnamon Rosemary Old Fashioned; we’ll leave that one to the pros.

Ingredients

To make the simple syrup, you’ll need:

1/2 cup honey 1/2 cup water 6 sprigs of fresh rosemary 3 cinnamon sticks

To make the drink, you’ll need:

3 dashes Angostura bitters (or bitters of your choice) 2 oz. bourbon of your choice 1 orange peel or thinly-sliced orange
Rosemary sprig for garnish (optional) 4 tsp. homemade cinnamon rosemary simple syrup

Preparation:

  1. For the simple syrup, combine honey, water, rosemary, and cinnamon in a small pot over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and stir frequently, ensuring the honey has dissolved completely in the water. Once dissolved, remove from heat and allow to cool. Remove rosemary and cinnamon sticks and transfer to a mason jar or other airtight container. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, so you can enjoy your Cinnamon Rosemary Old Fashioned multiple times this holiday season.
  2. In an Old Fashioned glass, combine your simple syrup and bitters. Swirl around in the glass, adding the bourbon and orange peel last . Add ice to make it on the rocks, or eliminate the ice to keep it neat. Add optional cinnamon sticks and rosemary sprigs for garnish.
