Snapper Season in Florida ~ Southern Residential Leasing

One of the most anticipated events of the summer is finally here – snapper season in Florida! This year, the season runs from June 11th until July 26th. The change in dates is intended to also allow for a fall season if the summer quota is met. Snapper is one of the most fun fish to catch, since they almost never get bigger than 25 lbs. If you’re taking the kids out, then this is the perfect activity for you!

Don’t worry about getting a late start, though; there’s still plenty of time to join in on the fun! Whether you are renting with Southern in Destin or in Panama City Beach, there are plenty of opportunities to join in on snapper season in Florida. Our sister company Southern Vacation Rentals even offers discounts on fishing charters with their Southern Perks Program so that you can go out in search of snapper. These crews know just where to go to find some snapper to catch!Snapper Season in Florida

When you’re out fishing during snapper season in Florida, it’s important to keep a few things in mind. The Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC) has a daily bag limit of two snapper per person. Each snapper must be no more than 16″ from the most forward part of the head to the farthest tip of the tail. Don’t worry about trying to compete with the captain and crew when catching your snapper; the FWC prohibits them from catching while operating the boat in order to provide you with the best possible experience.

In addition to following FWC guidelines, fishing licenses are required in the state of Florida for both residents and non-residents. There are several different types of fishing licenses you can apply for, from the five-year license to an annual one, and even a youth license for young anglers. The youth license is valid until the 17th birthday. Learn more about which type of fishing license you should apply for here.
