Hurricane Preparedness Tax Holiday

1Between the wicked winter and wet weather here on the Gulf Coast the last thing that anyone wants to think about is Hurricane season. As a resident or even owner of a Northwest Florida income property, you are probably already familiar with the standard procedures of roof, yard and window maintenance. And for that matter, quite aware of the benefits of preparing your home in advance.

Well, this year is a little different. The government has turned hurricane readiness into a tax holiday. While the actual hurricane season does not officially begin until June 1, this tax relief kicks in on May 31 and runs through June 8. Throughout this time period, items related to hurricane preparedness are exempt from sales tax. This includes everything from ice packs and batteries to portable generators that can be used to restore power in the event of an outage.

Now is the time to stock up on the things that you may need should a storm hit our shores. Keep in mind that the qualifying items must be related to hurricane preparedness and do not apply to repairs, airport fees, public lodging etc.
