How to Successfully Work From Home
Five Tips for Working From Home ~ Southern Residential Leasing
We’re all adjusting to a work-from-home life these days. However, trying to find the balance between your work life and your home life when the two are intertwined can be difficult. You may be surprised to find that achieving that balance is easier than you think! All it takes is a little hard work and focus to get the ball rolling. If you’re not going back to work just yet or have just started working from home, here are five tips for working from home that we think you’ll benefit from!
Set up a Designated Workspace
One of the best tips for working from home is to stay out of your bed. We know it can be tempting to bring your laptop to bed with you, but working in your bed sends mixed signals to your brain and your body. Is it time to nap? Is it time to be productive? Instead, set up a designated workspace in a place you won’t be tempted to take a nap. If you don’t have a home office, your dining room table is a great alternative.
Get Dressed Each Morning
If you’re working from home, it can be tempting to stay in pajamas all day. But, just like you wouldn’t stay in your bed to work all day, your clothes should follow the same mindset. We aren’t suggesting you put on a blazer and dress pants every morning; in fact, this is the one chance you may get to wear pants with an elastic waist while you work! Just the act of getting dressed in the morning, even into something comfy, sends signals to your brain that it’s time to be productive.
Determine Your Goals
Just like you would if you went into the office, set your goals for the day and determine what you want to get accomplished. Using a project management tool like Airtable, Asana, or Trello will help you keep track of your daily and weekly tasks. In addition, they’ll help you stay in the know with what everyone on your team is working on.
Keep a Routine
One of the best ways to stay functional while working from home is to keep a routine. This includes going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, taking your lunch at normal hours, and eating dinner at or around the same time every evening. Just following these simple measures will help you stay balanced.
Exercise Each Day
Gyms may be closed right now, but you can still exercise at home! Whether you have no equipment or just a few things on hand, you can easily get in a good workout at home. Not to mention, there are some great resources for at-home workouts: YouTube is a great place to start, and Planet Fitness is streaming “work-ins” live each day on their Facebook page. Additionally, here are 12 at-home workouts you can do without any equipment.
