Owner Tips: Accepting Pets

To accept pets or not to accept pets – a serious question to consider when renting out your Destin home or any income property. Denying them will make your life easier but allowing them may make it more profitable.

So, should you allow it as an owner of an income property? While allowing animals is an owners choice, we typically recommend a weight limit for dogs and cats, as well as set breed limits. We also usually advise against exotic breeds, such as 85 pound pythons and the like. That being said, if you choose to accept a higher weight dog or multiple cats there will be plenty of thankful renters who will gladly pay a higher nonrefundable deposit and submit to quarterly carpet cleanings at their own expense. You just have to decide what you want to require from the beginning and put it in writing!

If you are still on the fence about animals in your Gulf Coast income property, require that you meet them before leasing your home. The demeanor and care of an animal will say volumes about how a tenant, and their pet, will treat your rental property while living there.
