Property Management Tips: Renovation Strategies

Looking back, you might get a chuckle out of some (if enough time has past), but not without a little stress and sheer confusion as to why whatever happened, happened in the first place. The good news, hindsight is 20/20, and our property managers at Southern want you to learn from your past mistakes.

If you own an investment property and it comes time to renovate, here are a few tips you can use to avoid some of those aforementioned horror stories:

(1) Use Standard Materials – Neutral paint colors appeal to everyone and save you time and money making unnecessary cosmetic changes/decisions.

(2) Avoid Carpet, At All Costs – Carpet is expensive, difficult to install, gets dirty and traps in odors. Opt for tile or laminate flooring instead. Both are relatively inexpensive and totally durable.

(3) Replace Rather than Fix Appliances – The cost of a service call for appliances can add up to the point that it might be cheaper to replace the item in the long run.
