Tennis Ball Treat ~ The Southern Circular’s Featured Pet Lover’s Tip

Tennis Ball Treat ~ The Southern Circular’s Featured Pet Lover’s Tip

Today we’re featuring a DIY for pet lovers, dogs specifically. It’s important to note that some dogs don’t do well with small tennis balls, so make sure you choose a tennis ball size that’s appropriate for your dog! The smaller dog breeds such as Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, Bichons, Miniature Schnauzers, or Dachsunds for example, should do okay with a regular size tennis ball. Larger breeds such as Labrador retrievers and larger, may need larger tennis balls you can purchase from most pet stores! *As always, exercise caution when choosing toys for your pets and monitor them closely!*

What you’ll need:

~ 1 Tennis ball proportionate in size to your furry friend

~ A knife from the kitchen

~ 1 handful of hard dog food or Fido’s favorite treat

Let’s DIY:

Okay, a quick precautionary measure! Always be careful when using a knife, and never cut toward yourself. Always cut in the direction away from you. Alright, here we go!

Notice the lines of the tennis ball, face the tennis ball toward you so the lines are as parallel as possible

Turn the tennis ball to the side, and cut a 1 1/2 – 2 inch hole along the line, just enough so when you squeeze it, the ball opens just a little *do not cut too far or the ball will open too wide and Fido won’t have to work to get the treats!*

Insert the dry dog food/Fido’s favorite treats

Toss the ball and watch your furry friend figure out where the goodies are

This DIY is great for dogs who get anxiety while crated, tossing the ball in the yard, or just another toy to put in their beds! Make sure you change out the food or treats regularly especially if you’ve got a drooly Shar Pei like myself! Enjoy!

We hope you like the Pet Lover’s Tip we’ve brought you this month. Thank you for being a part of the Southern family, and we’ll see you soon!
